Job-Oriented Courses for Immigrants (sponsored by BAMF and ESF)

Job-Oriented Courses Fostering German Language Skills for Immigrants – a program jointly sponsored by BAMF and the European Social Fund (ESF)
In cooperation with passage gGmbH and the Hamburger Volkshochschule (Adult Education) IBH offers job-oriented courses throughout the City of Hamburg with emphasis on German language skills.
These courses are designed
- to improve language proficiency
- to convey basic professional knowledge
- to strengthen self-organization
- to enhance job opportunities
Course Contents
Each course is composed of the following elements:
- Training and broadening of language competence in everyday professional life.
- Vocational orientation with regard to career concepts, further education and the labour market. Visits to business firms give an insight into work procedures.
- A practical training of several weeks supports vocational orientation. Professional and language skills are tested at work.
- Vocational instruction comprises data processing, mathematics, basic knowledge in relation to professional and linguistic skills as well as job application training.
- Progress of knowledge and skills is individually checked by coaching.
- The courses conclude with a certificate.
Each course emphasizes a special field, such as
- general vocational orientation and German for work,
- nursing and social work,
- gastronomy and hotel business,
- office work and trade,
- industry and technology
The courses last six months and comprise 30 hours per week. Travel expenses between domicile and training location will be refunded.
Eligibility
Eligible are immigrants who
- receive unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld I or II),
- have attended an integration course or have a knowledge of German at the A2/B1 Level,
- take a placement test which determines their competence. The test will be taken at the training centres,
- are interested in their own professional development,
- are eager to learn and open-minded towards other cultures.
Registration and Contact
If you are interested, please contact your job centre or labour agency. They will register you with one of the training centres where your level of competence will be established. Then you will receive an invitation to a job-oriented German language course.
